Tanzkongress 2022

On view daily: Installations at Tanzkongress

Some of the Tanzkongress projects can be experienced daily with free admission:

The TimeCapsule2022 (daily 09:00 to 22:00 | Foyer Großes Haus - Staatstheater Mainz), developed by dancers from tanzmainz, captures short video portraits of active dancers from around the world. The interviewees share their challenges, experiences of the present and motivations to dance - a snapshot of what it means to be a dancer in the year 2022.

The DanceTunnel (daily from 14:00 to 19:00 | bridge between the Großes and Kleines Haus - Staatstheater Mainz) offers free space for congress participants to dance alone or together.

Along with other exhibits the Motion Bank Gallery includes the interactive items involved in the tanzmainz choreographic work Effect. Visitors are also able to try out and become acquainted with the project’s documentation and creative tools. Short movement sequences can be recorded in the MotionCaptureBox with the help of the Motion Bank team. These sequences will be converted into an abstract form, the CongressAvatar, which will be on view in various places around the city of Mainz and in the Tanzkongress.NITEhotel. The Motion Bank Gallery also functions as an open meeting place.

During the dance congress, the Motion Bank Gallery (from Friday daily 12:00 to 19:00 | Malersaal - Staatstheater Mainz) provides insights into the work on the project in recent years and current research projects. The Motion Bank Project, founded in 2010 by the choreographer William Forsythe, has been researching into the notation and transmission of contemporary dance for over a decade. Since 2016 the Motion Bank has been located at the University of Applied Sciences in Mainz, where it continues as an interdisciplinary research project combining dance studies, design and computer science under the guidance of Florian Jenett and Scott deLahunta. Its recent activities have been focused on research into choreographic processes, the digitalisation of dance training, cross-media communication of dance and digitalisation in cultural education.

And in the Temple of Care in the Großes Haus we offer daily from 10:00 to 18:00 aspace for intimate encounters with each other. A living installation is generated, inhabited and shapeshifted as we explore deeper into embodied polylogues of queer care practices.
